Why TMS Treatment at Midtown Psychiatry and TMS Center?

tms machine Midtown Psychiatry TMS

Our goal is to provide our patients with the least invasive, most effective, therapeutic intervention for treatment resistant depression. To that end, Midtown Psychiatry and TMS Center offers Neurostar® TMS Therapy for our patients. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy is one of the most technologically advanced treatments for depression.

Cleared By The FDA

The FDA cleared the NeuroStar TMS Therapy in 2008 for treatment resistant depressed adults for whom one antidepressant has failed to work. TMS is now a safe alternative for those looking for a non-invasive, outpatient therapy. In the years since it’s  FDA approval, TMS has helped thousands of depressed patients who did not receive results from antidepressants or other forms of treatment.

How It Works

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive method used to stimulate small regions of the brain. During the TMS procedure, a coil called a “magnetic field generator,”, is placed near the head of the person receiving the treatment. The coil gives off small electric currents in the area of the brain just beneath the coil. The coil is connected to a pulse generator, or stimulator, which delivers electrical current to the coil.

Insurance Coverage

Because of the increasing recognition by the insurance companies of it’s effectiveness, TMS treatment is covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and Optum (formerly United Behavioral Health).

TMS Therapy InsuranceTMS Therapy® may be covered by your health insurance provider on a case-by-case basis.  Currently, insurance coverage for the TMS procedure varies and individual carriers and plans may determine coverage on a case-by-case basis.
